Mr José F. Canalejas is a PhD candidate at the University of Castile – La Mancha in Toledo (Spain) and a senior lawyer at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados in Madrid (Spain). His main areas of specialization are financial regulation, banking law, securities law and derivatives and his legal practice is focused on such matters. His thesis analyses the concept of financial instrument in Spain after the implementation of MiFID II, reviewing core objectives of securities regulation after a comparative study of securities law.

Mr José holds a law degree from the University of Castile – La Mancha in Toledo (Spain) (2003-2008), and an LLM in European Law (2009-2010) and an LLM in Constitutional Law (2014-2015) from UCLM Centre of European Estudies (Jean Monet Excellence Center) and University of Castile – La Mancha, respectively.

He has published several papers in Spanish journals (i.e. Revista de Derecho del Mercado de Valores, Revista Española de Seguros and Revista de Derecho de Sociedades) and is a member of the Madrid Bar Association (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid).

At EWBCLB, José will conduct his research on the principles of securities regulations in Singapore and his comparative analysis will be focused
on financial regulation in the Asia-Pacific region.
