Dr. Pratyush Nath Upreti is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of the LLM in Intellectual Property Law at the School of Law, Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom. Before his appointment at Queen’s University Belfast, he held positions at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki, and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition Law in Munich. He was a fellow at Stanford Law School’s Transatlantic Technology Law Forum (TTLF) from 2018 to 2023.

Dr. Pratyush Nath Upreti is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of the LLM in Intellectual Property Law at the School of Law, Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom. Before his appointment at Queen’s University Belfast, he held positions at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki, and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition Law in Munich. He was a fellow at Stanford Law School’s Transatlantic Technology Law Forum (TTLF) from 2018 to 2023.
Before moving to academia, Dr. Upreti practiced law and appeared before the Supreme Court of Nepal. He has served as an expert for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and has commissioned studies on Mozambique’s intellectual property. In 2023, he was appointed an IP expert in a seven-member expert committee formed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in South-East Asia. Dr. Upreti’s work has been published widely in leading international journals and his research outcomes have received an award from the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) Young Scholar’s Prize in 2022.
His work has been widely published in leading law journals such as the International & Comparative Law Quarterly (ICLQ), World Trade Review, the International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law (IIC), the Journal of World Intellectual Property, European Intellectual Property Review, the Journal of World Trade, Berkeley Journal of International Law, and among others.
His book, “Intellectual Property Objectives in International Investment Agreements” (2022), published by Edward Elgar, was voted the IPKat 2022 Intellectual Property Law Book of the Year. He is also a co-editor of “Intellectual Property Rights in the Post-Pandemic World: An Integrated Framework of Sustainability, Innovation and Global Justice” (Edward Elgar, 2023).
Dr. Upreti is a visiting faculty member at the National Law University Delhi, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, Vietnam and was a visiting professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Additionally, he serves as an elected Executive Committee Member of the Asian Society of International Law.
