What Our Students Say

Chia Zhen Kai

NUS Law is as much about the community as it is about law. I am honoured and grateful to serve as President of NUS Law Club and Vice-Chairperson of the Freshmen Orientation Central Committee, and privileged to work alongside my dedicated peers and a supportive faculty.

Through initiatives such as Yay-to-Yale and NUS Law Careers Fair, I have witnessed how student-led efforts can bring people together and meaningfully shape the law school experience. NUS Law challenges you to think deeply, lead with conviction and grow together as a community, and I am proud to call it home.

With its emphasis on sharp legal writing, incisive oral advocacy, and a competitive mooting culture, the Faculty offers an unrivalled foundation for dispute resolution practice.

NUS Law pushed me to test myself early. I have since competed in five moots, winning two. Even before entering practice, I’ve had the privilege of arguing before Honourable Justices such as Justice Judith Prakash and Justice Philip Jeyaretnam, as well as Senior and King’s Counsel. At NUS Law, excellence is not theoretical, it is experienced. By learning in the presence of legal excellence, a head start in litigation is not just possible; it is inevitable.

Beyond the lecture theatres, NUS Law comes alive through its vibrant competition culture. I have had the privilege of participating in advocacy and negotiation tournaments globally, which have significantly expanded my perspective on alternative dispute resolution.

While the exposure honed my skills, the highlight was the unwavering support I received. From dedicated professors to alumni returning to coach us, the mentorship was world-class. It is this unique 'pay-it-forward' culture that has allowed me to grow outside the classroom. At NUS Law, you are challenged to be your best, but you never have to do it alone.

Claire

Before I joined NUS Law, everyone told me it would be impossible to juggle studies and my commitment as Vice-Captain of the National Artistic Swimming team. Halfway into Year 2, I have represented Singapore in multiple World Cups and competed in the World Championships. Two weeks after final-year exams, I earned a silver medal in the SEA Games.

Juggling 30-hour training weeks with law school has been challenging, but I’m grateful for the support and flexibility I’ve enjoyed as an NUS Sports Scholar. The faculty has been accommodating in arranging my classes, and the individual tutors have been nothing but encouraging. Being a national athlete requires support, and I’m grateful to NUS Law for helping me reach both my academic and sporting goals.
