Kumar read law at NUS and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1996. He has also been admitted to practice in England & Wales and New York. He is a Principal in the disputes practice of Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow in Singapore, and also leads the energy, mining and infrastructure (EMI)-related disputes practice within Baker & McKenzie globally.

Kumar has a broad focus on dispute resolution, with particular expertise in international arbitration, commercial litigation, and corporate restructuring and insolvency. In particular, he is very well-regarded for his work relating to the areas of construction, infrastructure, energy and oil & gas projects. Kumar is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and also serves on statutory tribunals such as the Income Tax Review Board and the Law Society’s Inquiry Panel. He is a member of the Expert Panel of the Centre for Cross-Border Commercial Law in Asia (CEBCLA).
