Sports Law & Arbitration

Paul Czarnota practices as a Barrister at the Victorian Bar, and is admitted as an Attorney to the New York State Bar. His practice includes common law, general commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration, with a particular focus on torts (personal injury and insurance) and sports law. He has experience advising and appearing for athletes and governing bodies in various sporting-related disputes including doping, match-fixing, and disciplinary matters. He has experience sitting as a board member for BMX Victoria, as a tribunal member for Basketball Victoria and Touch Football Australia, and is appointed as an arbitrator to the AFL Players’ Association’s arbitration panel. He has also taught Sports Law and Torts for the Faculty of Law, Monash University. Paul has Commerce and Law (with Honours) degrees from Monash University, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Melbourne, where he specialised in sports law. He is widely published on various sports law issues, and is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA), the Sports Lawyers Association (USA), and is a committee member and monitor of the Sports Law Section of CommBar.
