Abstract:

Examines the operation of estoppel within the law of agency, and how it potentially expands agency's scope. Discusses its role in the doctrine of apparent authority, its use to deny the existence of an agency relationship, and its application when a principal causes third parties to believe that an agent acts on the principal's behalf. Considers whether cases such as Watteau v Fenwick (QBD) support supplementary categories of estoppel agency.
