On August 12, 2024, we welcomed our new First Year PhD students to the Law faculty during our PhD Orientation program. Professor Lynette Chua, our Vice Dean (Research), chaired the event, bringing together both our new and senior PhD students for an engaging and supportive start to their academic journey.

This year, we’re excited to have Ms. Ren Zeshen, Ms. Chung Yoon Joo, and Mr. Huang Fan join our PhD program. Professor Simon Chesterman, Zeshen’s thesis advisor, was also present and generously shared insights from his own PhD journey.

Associate Professors Tan Hsien-Li and Sandra Booysen offered their personal experiences from their own NUS Law PhD paths and provided invaluable advice on navigating studies, conducting research, and managing the writing process.

Additionally, Professor Chua and Associate Professor Jolene Lin, along with their PhD students, Ms. Jeanette Yeo and Ms. Kanika Jamwal respectively, shared their collaborative experiences in student-advisor teams. They discussed everything from research discussions and progress reviews to preparation for the Doctoral Candidate Qualifying Examination and reviews of drafts.

We look forward to a rewarding academic year ahead for all our PhD students.
