On 11 August 2025, the Faculty of Law warmly welcomed the incoming PhD cohort at our annual PhD Orientation Programme. Led by Professor Lynette Chua, Vice Dean (Research), the session brought together both new and senior doctoral students to foster connections and set the tone for a supportive academic journey. This year, we are delighted to introduce three new members to our PhD community: Mr Bulat Karimov, Ms Meera Rajah, and Mr Shen Pengfei.

Professor Umakanth, Vice Dean (Graduate Studies), drew from his own NUS Law PhD experience to offer practical guidance on navigating doctoral life—from structuring research to managing the writing process.

Associate Professor Cheah Wui Ling and Associate Professor Lin Lin, together with their respective PhD students, Mr Huang Fan and Ms Zhao Yuxin, shared insights from their advisor–student partnerships. They spoke on topics ranging from research discussions and progress evaluations to preparing for the Doctoral Candidate Qualifying Examination and reviewing drafts.

The day closed not just with information shared, but with a sense of anticipation—of the discoveries, breakthroughs, and achievements that the year ahead promises for every member of our PhD community.
