Yangzi Li at the 9th VIPP Roundtable at CityU

December 20, 2024 | In the News

TRAIL’s postdoctoral fellow Dr Yangzi Li recently delivered a presentation at a prestigious two-day intellectual property (IP) conference held at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). The event featured an Oxford University Press (OUP) Book Conference titled “Criminal Intellectual Property Enforcement in Asia – Its Sources, Significance, and Side-Effects” and the 9th VIPP (Visionary IP Professors for the Betterment of IP Study and Regimes in Asia) Roundtable.

The conference brought together leading academics, judges, and practitioners from jurisdictions including the US, UK, EU, China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. Participants exchanged knowledge, shared experiences, and explored collaborative opportunities for research proposals. The discussions emphasised common interests, divergent approaches, and the vast potential of regional comparative studies on cutting-edge IP issues.

Dr Li’s presentation, titled “Addressing Unauthorized Use of Protected Data in Generative AI: Challenges and Remedies,” focused on two pressing issues related to generative AI: the unauthorised use of protected data for training AI models and the exploration of feasible remedies under existing copyright and privacy laws. Her work, supported by TRAIL, addresses a critical niche at the intersection of generative AI and law, contributing original insights to this evolving field.
