The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has launched a new “Young IP Mediators” initiative. Having recognised that many IP disputes are actually well-suited for mediation due to their international dimension and confidential nature, the overarching goal of this initiative is to build awareness of and to promote interest in mediation for IP disputes. The scope of work as a Young IP Mediator would be the opportunity to participate in mediations concerning IP disputes as a shadow mediator or a co-mediator, as well as be involved in a range of projects to promote the goal of this initiative.

Two of NUS Law’s alumni and a current student were appointed – Levin Lin ’20, Chloe Chua ’20 and Utsav Rakshit ’21. This enables them to gain exposure and experience to real life cases with real stakes and consequences, and allows them to play a part in promoting the use of mediation, something they strongly believe in.

“It’s a great honour to be a part of something so meaningful. I look forward to translating my learnings in school into practice.” – Chloe

“The multitude of opportunities afforded by NUS Law has piqued my interest in mediation. I am grateful for the training received and look forward to working on the development of this emerging field.” – Utsav

“Advocating for mediation as an appropriate form of dispute resolution has to begin somewhere and I’m glad to have the opportunity to contribute to this journey.” – Levin

They express their heartfelt gratitude to Professor Joel Lee, Marcus Lim ’12 and trainers at SAGE Mediation, Aloysius Goh (LLM ’09), Sean Lim ’15 and Samantha Lek ’18 for guiding us along the way and equipping us with the skills we need.
