We congratulate four of our alumni who have been appointed as office-bearers of The Law Society of Singapore for 2026. Mr Dinesh Singh Dhillon ’94 takes office as the new President, with Professor Tan Cheng Han, S.C. ’87 and Mr Koh Choon Guan Daniel ’93 appointed as Vice Presidents, and Ms Yee May Kuen Peggy Sarah ’87 assuming the role of Treasurer. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our alumni as they continue to shape and strengthen Singapore’s legal community.

Faculty, staff, students and alumni of NUS Law, along with their families and friends, gathered at its current home on Bukit Timah Campus, or BTC as it is fondly known, on 15 November 2025 to honour the cherished memories ahead of its move back to Kent Ridge Campus in January 2026. About 480 turned up to bid farewell to the campus, nestled in the lush greenery of Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, one last time to celebrate the community and reflect on the enduring legacy the campus helped create.

Mooting is a big part of the law school experience. In this article, our mooters, past and present, reflect on their memories of the Wee Chong Jin Moot Court, one of the most iconic spaces on campus. It wasn’t sparks that flew when Andrew Chua ’17 and Marrissa Karuna ’16 first met each other 12 years ago, but a medley of fruit and vegetables. From competitors in a game of captain’s ball with a twist, they gradually found in each other someone they could open their hearts to. Those years at NUS Law strengthened their bond, as they shared a passion for mooting, studied at the CJ Koh Law Library, and watched the glow of sunsets over the Botanic Gardens together. Now, as parents to a one-year old boy, the couple have ridden through the crests and troughs of life together through easy, honest conversation.

The National University of Singapore Faculty of Law (NUS Law) is delighted to share that its Dean, Professor Andrew Simester, has been elected as an Academic Master of the Bench (or “Bencher”) of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple – one of the four historic Inns of Court in England and Wales. This appointment is a singular honour and a remarkable milestone, recognising Professor Simester’s leadership at NUS Law as well as his international scholarly standing in criminal law and legal philosophy. It also affirms the strong ties between Singapore’s legal community and one of the most venerable institutions of the common law.

We congratulate Professor Lynette Chua ’03, Vice Dean of Research at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Research Institute at NUS, on being appointed to the recently established Jernal Singh Khosa Professorship in Law. This appointment recognises her pioneering research in the field of socio-legal studies, focusing on how specific social groups engage with legal power and the effects of those interactions on identities, relationships and legal institutions.

We congratulate Professor Ernest Lim ’02—Vice Dean for Faculty Development at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law, and Co-Director of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and the Law—on being appointed to the Chan Sek Keong Professorship in Private Law, in recognition of his distinguished achievement and leadership in the field of corporate law.

Countless students have walked through NUS Law and, in their undergraduate years, engaged in fun student activities, endured crazy mugging sessions and forged solid friendships to last a lifetime. Amid these relationships, some have found love and embarked on life's journey together. Here, they reminisce how the Bukit Timah campus brought them together, and describe how the campus played a significant role in their lives.

Associate Professor Simon Tay is the recipient of the prestigious President’s Award for the Environment, in recognition of his exemplary and sustained contributions, demonstrated through his leadership in driving Singapore's sustainable development and our green transition. As the Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs and founding Chairman of the National Environment Agency, his dedication to addressing the transboundary haze pollution and instrumental role in building regional collaborations have created significant impact at national and international levels.

For Darrell Lee '17 and Emma Gan '17, a growing friendship developed after they met on the very first day of school—with Darrell earning Emma’s admiration for holding his ground under Professor Eleanor Wong’s steely gaze. In turn, her infectious cheeriness drew his attention—"being around her felt like being close to the Sun!”. From that first meeting, Darrell and Emma would go on to become LAWR moot partners and, united by a shared enthusiasm for campus activities and an equal dedication to their studies, the pair surmounted challenges as a team and, today, they remain the first port of call for each other.

Most daughters share a special bond with their father. But for Elaine Low ’14, this bond extends beyond the family to her professional life as well. Like her father, veteran lawyer Peter Cuthbert Low ’77, Elaine walked the halls of NUS Law at the Bukit Timah campus before joining him at Peter Low Chambers LLC, the law firm that Peter set up. Bound not only by family ties, but also by a shared calling to the law, Peter and Elaine reflect on how their lives and the law are intertwined.
