NUS Law was honoured to host The Right Honourable Sir Geoffrey Vos, Chancellor of the High Court of England and Wales, on 14 September 2018, at the NUS Law Bukit Timah campus. Welcomed by Dean, Professor Simon Chesterman, Sir Geoffrey Vos engaged attendees with a thought-provoking discussion on legal education and the future of law as a career. Faculty members and students participated in the discussion actively, each sharing their thoughts on the subject.

Sir Geoffrey Vos was in Singapore to deliver the Singapore Academy of Law Distinguished Speaker Lecture titled: “Certainty v. Creativity: Some Pointers Towards the Development of the Common Law” at the Supreme Court.

Sir Geoffrey Vos was appointed Chancellor of the High Court of England and Wales on 24 October 2016. He holds responsibility for the conduct of business in the Business and Property Courts. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court in October 2009.

He sat as a judge internationally, in the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey between 2005 and 2009, and in the Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands between 2008 and 2009, having begun his judicial career as a deputy High Court Judge in England in 1999. He was the Chairman of the Chancery Bar Association from 1999 to 2001 and of the Bar Council in 2007, having taken silk (QC) in 1993 after a career practising at the Chancery-Commercial bar, both domestically and internationally.
