Law of Contracts

May 7, 2013 | Programmes

Common in the working world, a contract is a formal documentation that creates legal obligations that bind parties to a commitment. As such, the subject is an important foundation course to help law students understand the basic doctrines and issues of contract law, including the creation of rights and obligations from voluntary undertakings, the doctrines which circumscribe the circumstances under which the law permits a dissolution of the contract, and the remedies that the law provides for the breach of contractual obligations.

The course also examines challenges to the traditional model of contract law, tensions arising from the pulls of certainty and fairness, and other broader issues.

The course is convened by Assoc Prof Alexander Loke, and the co-teachers include Prof Teo Keang Sood, Prof Mindy Chen-Wishart, Assoc Prof Dora Neo, Assoc Prof Burton Ong, Asst Prof Sandra Annette Booysen, Asst Prof Goh Yihan and Asst Prof Kelry Loi.
