Strong showing at Vis Moots in Vienna and Hong Kong
Congratulations to two NUS Law teams for their strong showing at the 33rd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) held in Vienna, and the 23rd Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis (East) Moot) held in Hong Kong SAR.
The Vis team—comprising Faye Guo Feiran ’26, Samuel Khor ’27, Evan Sim ’27 and Tejyashri Jhanvi Rideshkumar ’27—advanced to the Round of 64 in Vienna, receiving Honourable Mention awards for Best Team Orals and Best Claimant Memorandum. Evan was the second runner-up for the Martin Domke Award for Best Individual Oralist, ranking third out of over 2,500 competitors.

The Vis (East) team— comprising Nicholas Chin Zong Hong ’26, Darryl Lee ’26, Tham Mei Shuen ’26 and Qu Chenxin ’27—received two Honourable Mention awards for Best Individual Oral Advocate in Hong Kong, with Mei Shuen and Chenxin placing in the top 10% of competitors. The team also emerged as quarter-finalists at the Moot Shanghai 2026 Pre-Moot.

The Vis (East) Moot took place from 15 to 22 March 2026, while the Vis Moot took place from 27 March to 2 April 2026.
The Vis and Vis (East) are sister moots held in Vienna and Hong Kong, forming the largest moot competition focusing on international commercial arbitration with over 550 teams vying for two trophies. This year’s moot problem was based on Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) rules, with questions on the new disclosure rules for third-party funding under SIAC Rules 2025, and on the exemption of liability provisions under the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
Nicholas, the final-year LLB student who competed in Hong Kong, said, “The Vis Moot was an incredibly enriching experience, and it was a privilege to compete alongside international teams of outstanding calibre. The competition challenged me to grow as an advocate and deepened my insight into international arbitration. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from distinguished arbitrators and practitioners. I would like to thank my teammates for their unwavering support, our coaches for their close guidance, and the Vis alumni and practitioners who generously assisted us in our preparation.”
The success of both teams was bolstered by a dedicated network of alumni who provided rigorous mentorship to sharpen the students’ advocacy skills. This culture of giving back is a hallmark of the NUS Law community; among those who dedicated significant time to coaching were Mitchell Yeo ’14, Loh Tian Kai ’16, Kenneth Lim ’19, Nicole Seah ’22 and Samuel Wee ’24.
Reflecting a spirit of unity that spans decades, several other distinguished practitioners and academics also returned to offer guidance. From senior members of the profession like Associate Professor Eleanor Wong ’85, Blossom Hing, S.C. ’96 and Foo Yuet Min ’06, to recent graduates and peers, this collective effort by more than 20 alumni ensured the next generation of mooters was well-prepared for the international stage.
The other alumni include Elaine Chew ’09, Chen Zhida ’13, Emmanuel Aw ’19, Glenn Sim ’19, Leanne Cheng ’19, Wong Weitao ’22, Asaph Heng ’23, Jolene Gina Abelarde ’23, Russell Adam Whang ’23, Shannen Leong ’23, Chiew Chern Faye ’25, Feng Yuxin ’25, Julia Liaw ’25 and Tan De-Reng ’25.
