Pro Bono Group Celebrates 10th Anniversary

March 3, 2016 | Student

On 4 March 2016, NUS Law’s Pro Bono Group (PBG) celebrated its 10th anniversary with members, alumni, and partners at the Moot Court of the Bukit Timah Campus. It was an evening filled with fond recollections as the audience was taken on a 10-year PBG journey through a series of videos which showcased the beginning, development and future of the group.

The celebrations were also graced by Professor Simon Chesterman, Dean of NUS Law; Professor Tan Cheng Han, former Dean of the faculty; Mr Lim Tanguy, Director of the Pro Bono Services Office at the Law Society; and Mr Thio Shen Yi, President of the Law Society, who each spoke about their experience with PBG and pro bono work at NUS Law.

The event concluded on a celebratory note, with the launch of a booklet titled “The PBG Story”, chronicling developments within the group over the years. PBG alumni also joined in the celebrations on stage for a cake cutting ceremony, led by PBG founder Joseph Wong and current PBG President Cheryl Lim.

Ten years since its founding, PBG’s story is an ongoing narrative. While the group has much to be proud of, there is still much to be done. Nonetheless, for an evening, the NUS Pro Bono Group was able to pause, take stock of its progress, and appreciate the efforts of the many people who have contributed to the pro bono landscape in Singapore.
