Pro bono service has a deep and long tradition at NUS. Students, alumni and faculty dedicate effort, expertise and heart to numerous projects. Every participant is deserving of appreciation. Each year, the NUS Centre for Pro Bono and Clinical Legal Education especially recognises those who have made outstanding contributions in this area.
The Centre recognises contributions in three main areas:
PRO BONO SPECIAL
RECOGNITION AWARD
This is awarded to NUS Law students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and passion for pro bono work. Whether as participants or leaders, these students have gone beyond the call of duty and expectation. Their contributions are exceptionally responsive, dedicated and persistent, and are substantively excellent in the context of their respective roles.
PRO BONO MENTOR AWARD
This is awarded to persons who have been outstanding supporters of NUS Law students' efforts in pro bono, including but not limited to acting as legally qualified supervisors on student pro bono activities.
PRO BONO INNOVATION
AWARD
This is awarded to persons for outstanding leadership, innovation and initiative in advancing the mission of pro bono at NUS Law. Whether as students, alumni or other collaborators, these persons have identified new needs and have created opportunities for NUS Law students to serve the larger community. Initiatives should engage meaningful service and learning, and should demonstrate sustainability.
Nominations will open in August 2024 for students' pro bono contributions for AY 2023/2024.
