This conference will be the first of its kind in Asia to bring together leading academics across Asia and beyond to examine the causes and consequences of corporate scandals in 12 Asian jurisdictions, as well as in Australia, Europe and the US. This conference is based on the book Corporate Scandals in Asia: Legal and Policy Implications (under contract with Cambridge University Press) edited by Luh Luh Lan, Ernest Lim and Joon Hyug Chung. The presenters will interrogate the corporate scandals in their home jurisdictions through the lens of legal doctrine, regulatory design and enforcement efficacy, examining both the failures of legal frameworks and subsequent reform responses.  The conference covers jurisdictions representing distinct legal traditions: common law (Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and India), civil law (China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand), and hybrid systems (Philippines). This legal diversity provides unique comparative insights into regulatory approaches across different legal frameworks and stages of development. While Western corporate scandals have been researched and conceptualized, Asian cases remain relatively unexplored, despite their global economic importance and unique governance complexities.
