Over 200 freshmen marked the start of their academic life at NUS Law at the Freshmen Inauguration ceremony on 5 August 2013. The Dean for NUS Law, Prof Simon Chesterman opened the ceremony by congratulating the new cohort for embarking on this exciting journey. This was followed by guest speaker and newly appointed Judge of the High Court, Justice Vinodh Coomaraswamy who made an impactful and yet lighthearted speech. Encouraging the freshmen to “look outside of yourself when you succeed and look within yourself if you fall short”, he urged students to take home the good memories of studying at NUS Law despite the challenges ahead.

Thereafter, Prof Simon Chesterman presented a gift of appreciation to Justice Coomaraswamy before introducing the individual faculty members.

The President of NUS Law club, Kenny Low also came on stage to welcome the freshmen and shared more on life at NUS Law from a student’s perspective, further emphasising some of the pointers raised by the speakers earlier. After the event, the freshmen were invited for a buffet reception, to meet and mingle with faculty members.
