Associate Professor Lynette Chua ’03 appointed Chair of the American Sociological Association

We are pleased to announce that Associate Professor Lynette Chua ’03 has been elected Chair of the American Sociological Association’s Section on the Sociology of Human Rights for the 2023-24 term.

Lynette is the first scholar based in an Asian university to be elected to this position. She will serve as Chair-Elect for 2022-23, take office as Chair for 2023-24 and then serve in the position of Past-Chair in 2024-25. Concurrently, Lynette is serving a two-year term as President of the Asian Law & Society Association (2022 & 2023) and a three-year term as elected Councillor (2023-25) of the Association for Asian Studies’ Southeast Asian Council.

Through this appointment, she hopes to continue the Section’s efforts to bring international perspectives to the sociological study of human rights globally and to the United States.
