ATLAS-NUS Agora 2013

NUS Law is pleased to have hosted the Association of Transnational Law Schools (ATLAS) Agora 2013 from 16 to 27 June 2013 at the Bukit Timah Campus.

ATLAS was formed to bring together talented doctoral students and the highlight each year is a meeting convened annually during late June and early July. At this meeting, students from each partner institution learn from faculty in a variety of fields and exchange feedback on one another’s work.

The Agora programme is designed to encourage the development of legal scholarship by fostering a community of doctoral candidates and encouraging the development of exceptional doctoral dissertations.

This year, participants of the programme had the opportunity to participate in doctoral workshops, in which their own work was commented upon and discussed, and to learn more about the law in the Singapore and Asian context. This included talks on subjects such as Singapore’s legal system, socio-legal research and LGBT rights movements in SE Asia, international human rights in Asia, current legal issues in Indonesia, and challenges of legal reform in Myanmar, among others.

The seventh round of this event saw the participation of 27 doctoral students from eight law schools around the world. The participating universities are: Bar – Ilan University (Tel-Aviv, Israel), Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany), University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain), LSE Department of Law (London, UK), Melbourne Law School (Melbourne, Australia), Université de Montréal (Montréal, Canada), Osgoode Hall Law School (York, Canada), and NUS Law.
