Book Launch: Criminal Law in Malaysia and Singapore and Elements of Family Law in Singapore
On 28 January 2019, NUS Law celebrated the publication of Criminal Law in Malaysia and Singapore (3rd Edition) by authors Professor Stanley Yeo (NUS Law), Visiting Research Professor Neil Morgan (NUS Law) and Professor Chan Wing Cheong (SMU School of Law), and Elements of Family Law in Singapore (3rd Edition) by author Professor Leong Wai Kum (NUS Law).
The event was graced by Guest-of-Honours, Justice Andrew Phang ’82 (Judge of Appeal, Supreme Court of Singapore) and Justice Tan Lee Meng ’72 (Senior Judge, Supreme Court of Singapore and Professor, NUS Law).
The book launch was also a homecoming event for about 50 current and former faculty members of NUS Law including Associate Professor Goh Yihan ’06 (Dean, SMU School of Law), lawyers from private practices, family members of the authors and executives from LexisNexis Singapore.
The event concluded with a book signing session and dinner reception.
The Books
Criminal Law in Malaysia and Singapore (3rd Edition)
This book is essential for legal practitioners, judges, scholars and students. Now in its third edition, the comprehensive analysis of legislation, major cases, academic commentary and law reform perspectives on criminal law has made this book the premier authoritative text referred to in legal proceedings, judgments and scholarly journals.
Stanley Yeo is a Professorial Fellow at the National University of Singapore. He is an internationally renowned comparative law scholar who has studied the criminal laws of various jurisdictions for over thirty years. His previous books on criminal law include Compulsion in the Criminal Law; Fault in Homicide; Unrestrained Killings and the Law; and Criminal Defences in Australia.
Neil Morgan is Inspector of Custodial Services for Western Australia and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia. He has been a staff member and Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore and was a co-author of Criminal Law in Singapore and Malaysia: Text and Materials. He has undertaken numerous research and law reform projects on criminal law, sentencing and corrections in the Asia Pacific region.
Chan Wing Cheong is a Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University. He specialises in criminal law and family law and has published extensively in these areas. The books on criminal law that he has been involved in include Fundamental Principles of Criminal Law: Cases and Materials; Support for Victims of Crime in Asia; Codification, Macaulay and the Indian Penal Code; and Criminal Law for the 21st Century: A Model Code for Singapore.

Elements of Family Law in Singapore (3rd Edition)
Since the publication of Elements of Family Law in Singapore (2nd Ed) in 2012, the practice of Family Law has been profoundly changed by sweeping legislative amendments and progressive judicial pronouncements. The long-awaited third edition provides a clear, incisive and up-to-date analysis of the main developments. Apart from a comprehensive update of the law across all chapters, the most significant enhancements include a new chapter on Litigation in Family Justice Court, and a complete re-write of chapters pertaining to the Division of Matrimonial Assets.
Leong Wai Kum is a Professor of Law at the National University of Singapore. She was the first graduate of the newly established Faculty of Law, University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur to join the Faculty of Law, NUS, as lecturer in 1976. She holds a postgraduate degree from Harvard University. She dedicates herself to the development of the family law in Singapore and has written extensively on the subject.
