CFG Lunchtime Panel Discussion: Government Careers in International Law

Students at NUS Law were given a chance to find out more about careers in international law at the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and Ministry of Law (MinLaw) through a careers talk organised by the Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG).

Part of the Lunchtime Panel Discussion series, this session titled “Government Careers in international Law” held on 18 August at the Bukit Timah Campus featured speakers from the AGC and MinLaw including our alumni Davinia Aziz ’02, Paul Chia ’00, and Mary-Elisabeth Chong ’13. The discussion was moderated by Associate Professor Eleanor Wong ’85, Vice Dean (Student Affairs).

The speakers provided an overview on the practice of public international law at the AGC and MinLaw as well as the various career pathways available. During the session, panellists shared their personal career journeys and experiences, and gave practical tips on what students can do now to prepare themselves for a government career in international law.

The session attracted an overwhelming response from law students. Year 5 Yale-NUS student, Amelia Chew ’18 said, “It was a very insightful session and it’s heartening to know that the panellists are so willing to share their career experiences so candidly given that it’s hard to understand what a job/career is like until one experiences it.”
