Dean’s List & Awards Ceremony 2022
After being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were finally able to celebrate our students’ hard work and academic achievements with the in-person Dean’s List and Awards ceremonies on Thursday, 24 February 2022.
“It is an absolute delight to be able to welcome you to the 2022 Dean’s List and Awards ceremony where we can honour the achievements of our wonderful students. If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is that these rituals of celebration and congratulation, of community and congregation, are very precious,” said Vice Dean of Student Affairs and Global Relations, Associate Professor Eleanor Wong ’85 in her opening remarks.
Close to a hundred students made it onto the Dean’s List and close to 50 awards were given out, with some students winning multiple awards.
Addressing all the guests present at the ceremony in his welcome speech, Professor Simon Chesterman, Dean of NUS Law said, “I want to thank three groups of people. Most importantly, I want to thank all the parents who are here, without you we wouldn’t have the students. But parents also support their students in many other ways, particularly over the last two years, we know how challenging it has been, to be a parent and to provide a safe nurturing environment to protect your children, so thank you for the support that you have given the students these years in particular. The second group I want to thank are my colleagues. We have had a ride over the last few years, changing of safe distancing measures, the ability to adapt on the fly both in terms of the academic programme to keep those classes going, and our administrative colleagues to adapt and overcome the challenges of running a law school at a time like this, and to be able to have events like today. And thirdly, and most importantly, I want to thank the students. You have done extremely well. Do keep in mind the reason we have an annual Dean’s List is that you do not need to expect to be honoured every single year. So, if this is the only year which you are at one of these ceremonies, don’t stress, you have still done extremely well. If you are a repeat player, even better. I want to thank you for the work that you have done that has brought you here today.”
Some of this year’s winners also had the privilege of being presented their awards and prizes by the respective donors. The donors who attended the ceremony include:
