First to record United Nations AVL lectures in three languages

The United Nations Audiovisual Library of International Law has released two lectures by Assistant Professor Jean Ho ’03, FCIArb, in New York. This is a historic moment as Assistant Professor Ho is the first person since the inception of the UN Audiovisual Library of International Law Lecture Series to record lectures in three working languages of the UN.

The first lecture, which was given in French, is entitled “La responsabilité d’Etat et la rupture des contrats d’Etat”. The second lecture delivered in Mandarin, is entitled “国际法对投资合约的保障”. These two lectures complement an earlier lecture given by Assistant Professor Ho in English, entitled “State Responsibility for Breaches of Investment Contracts”. All three lectures are based on Assistant Professor Ho’s forthcoming monograph, State Responsibility for Breaches of Investment Contracts, to be published by Cambridge University Press as part of the Cambridge Studies in International and Comparative Law Series. The lecture series contains a permanent collection of lectures of enduring value on virtually every subject of international law given by leading international law scholars and practitioners from different regions, legal systems, cultures and sectors of the legal profession.

Assistant Professor Ho lectures and supervises diverse aspects of international investment law. The principal areas of her research are the law of state responsibility, the law of treaties, and investment contracts. She is the first academic in the history of NUS Law to graduate with honours from l’Université de Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, topping her class in several courses including Droit des Contrats, Droit de la Responsabilité Civile, and Droit des Sociétés. She is also the first Singaporean to be awarded a placement with the Conseil d’Etat in Paris, an honour normally reserved for foreign judges.
