Congratulations to GCIA Class of 2018 on the conferment of their Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration!

The Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration Programme is designed to equip both lawyers and non-lawyers with the necessary skills and training to be arbitrators. On successful completion of the programme, graduates will then be qualified for direct admission as Fellows of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. Since its inception on 13 January 2004, the programme has produced a total of 335 graduates trained in International Arbitration to-date.

At the GCIA Graduation Ceremony held on 29 September 2018, NUS Law graduated the 15th batch of GCIA students. The following are the 21 graduates who received their well-deserved Graduate Certificates:

The Singapore International Arbitration Centre gives a cash prize of S$200 for the best paper in the Arbitration Law and Practice module of the GCIA Course. This year’s recipient is Mr Adrian Ooi.

Mr Adrian Ooi said, “Throughout my professional life as both chartered accountant and registered advocate for more than a decade, GCIA surpasses all other seminars or courses that I have attended, both in rigor, grit and reward. The course director, trainers and administrative staff were very professional and dedicated, and offered adequate assistance and support. The course syllabus was no doubt challenging, but very well prepared to equip both legal and non-legal professionals with the appropriate substantive skillsets to handle international arbitrations. My sincere thanks to the GCIA course conveners, and their guidance throughout the course.”
Adjunct Professor Neale Gregson (GCIA Course Director), said, “… good and wise arbitrators will always have an eye to the courts. We do not want to make mistakes. We want to get it right. We do not want our awards to be set aside. We want them to be enforced. That is why the parties appointed us in the first place … Hence the rigours of the GCIA course in general and the award writing exam in particular.”

We wish the GCIA Class of 2018 every success in their future!
