Justice David Goddard visits TRAIL

July 5, 2022 | Faculty, Research

Justice David Goddard, Judge of the High Court and the Court of Appeal of New Zealand, visited the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law (TRAIL) on Friday 1 July 2022.

Justice Goddard was briefed on the objectives, governance structure and research projects of TRAIL, as well as on the reforms to law and technology undergraduate curriculum at NUS Law. He also had an opportunity to experience a virtual reality environment wearing an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

At his swearing in ceremony in 2019, Chief Justice Dame Helen Winkelmann described him as a polymath with so many talents he could have followed any number of career paths. His first class degree in mathematics earned him the Sir Robert Stout scholarship for the best first degree across all faculties at Victoria University in his year. David Goddard QC was a leading barrister before his appointment to the bench. Justice Goddard has contributed to law reform and development internationally, including the signing of an international convention on cross-border enforcement of civil court judgments.
