Launch of the Alvin Yeo WongPartnership Visiting Professorship

WongPartnership LLP has donated an endowed gift of $1 million to the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Law, to establish the Alvin Yeo WongPartnership Visiting Professorship.
The landmark gift commemorates the late Mr Alvin Yeo, S.C., WongPartnership’s Co-Founder and former Senior Partner, who passed away in 2022. Made possible through generous contributions from his family, clients, colleagues, former colleagues and friends, the Professorship stands as a lasting tribute to one of Singapore’s most distinguished litigation lawyers and a central figure in shaping the nation’s modern legal landscape.
A Legacy of Legal Excellence
Appointed Senior Counsel in 2000 at just 37 years old—the youngest ever to receive the honour to date—Alvin Yeo, S.C. was widely regarded as one of the finest lawyers of his generation. He played an instrumental role in building WongPartnership from a boutique firm of 11 lawyers in 1992 into one of Singapore’s largest and most premier law firms, renowned globally for complex commercial litigation and international arbitration. He was also a passionate mentor dedicated to nurturing future legal talent. One of the finest lawyers of his generation, Alvin acted in some of the most high-profile and complex legal matters and landmark disputes during his distinguished career.
The firm’s Chairman and Senior Partner, Mr Ng Wai King, said, “This Professorship honours the memory of an inspiring leader, valued colleague and cherished friend. We are hopeful that the work undertaken at NUS Law through the Professorship will continue to inspire our law students, who are the future of our profession.”
Shaping the Future of Legal Education
Administered by NUS Law, the Visiting Professorship will support the annual appointment of distinguished global scholars and leading practitioners in commercial law and dispute resolution. Each appointed Visiting Professor will teach, participate in research, and deliver a public lecture to the broader legal community. The inaugural Visiting Professor is expected to be appointed in the current 2026/2027 academic year.
WongPartnership’s Managing Partner, Mr Chou Sean Yu, said, “The Professorship is a fitting tribute to Alvin’s enduring legacy. By bringing distinguished scholars and practitioners to nurture the next generation of legal talent in commercial law and dispute resolution, it embodies his lifelong commitment to education and his relentless pursuit of excellence.”
Professor Andrew Simester, Dean of NUS Law, commented on the longstanding friendship between WongPartnership and NUS Law, “We are deeply grateful to WongPartnership for their steadfast support of NUS Law. Since the establishment of the WongPartnership Scholarship in 2009, the firm has played an important role in enriching the student experience, not only through fundraising, but also through other activities such as mentoring and teaching our students.
“The Alvin Yeo WongPartnership Visiting Professorship honours the legacy of their late Senior Partner, Alvin Yeo and, at the same time, reinforces WongPartnership’s ongoing contributions to NUS Law’s mission of delivering outstanding legal education. We look forward to the opportunities it will create for our students and faculty to engage with leading minds, foster new ideas, and contribute to the future of the legal profession.”
