The Singapore Academy of Law and the Chancery Bar of England and Wales joined hands in welcoming The Right Honourable The Lord Mance and his wife The Right Honourable Lady Justice Mary Arden DBE to Singapore as part of a conference on “Finance, Property & Business Litigation in a Changing World”, and SAL’s Distinguished Speaker Lecture series.

The conference, which ran from 25 to 26 April, featured speakers from both the Chancery Bar of England and Wales, and Singapore’s legal community. The speakers discussed legal issues, trends and developments in modern commercial litigation. The conference also featured plenary sessions, panel discussions and workshops that covered a range of topics in banking litigation, insolvency litigation, trusts, proprietary remedies and company, shareholder and joint venture disputes. Lord Mance, together with the Honourable Mr Chan Sek Keong SC, delivered the closing address.

Lady Justice Arden was invited as Distinguished Speaker for the SAL Distinguished Speaker Lecture series. Titled “Coming to Terms with Good Faith”, the lecture which saw an overwhelming participation response, focused on recent developments in the field of good faith clauses in contracts.

With a busy schedule during their short visit to Singapore, it was an honour that on 25 April, NUS Law’s Dean Simon Chesterman and faculty members had the opportunity to host lunch with Lord Mance and Lady Justice Arden.
