January 4, 2022 | Faculty

Associate Professor Lynette Chua ’03 begins her two-year term as the fourth President of the Asian Law & Society Association (ALSA) from 1 January 2022.

ALSA was established in 2015 with a network of scholars committed to the empirical and theoretical inquiry of law-and-society relations in the Asian region. ALSA aims to foster scholarship and engage the broader research community, and to develop the Asian law and society field into a vibrant and cohesive discipline.

“Law and society scholars doing research on Asia are producing ground-breaking and innovative scholarship that has the potential to shape the discipline at large. I am excited to work with old and new colleagues to grow our community across the region.”

Lynette is also the first woman to be elected President of ALSA. She won the election in 2019 and served as President-Elect for two years from 2020-2021. From 2017 to 2019, she was a member of the ALSA Board of Trustees as well as the trustee class representative of the Law & Society Association based in the United States.

During her term as President of ALSA, Lynette plans to extend the association’s outreach, especially to younger scholars, and expand its membership base.
