NUS Law Academy holds successful workshop by leading negotiation trainer, Professor Joel Lee

The NUS Law Academy is delighted to organise yet another successful run of the “Negotiating Success” Workshop. Held at NUS Law’s Bukit Timah Campus, the workshop attracted 23 professionals from diverse industries and backgrounds. Some participants even travelled from overseas, especially for this workshop.

The “Negotiating Success” Workshop is taught by Professor Joel Lee, an award-winning teacher who pioneered the teaching and training of negotiation in Singapore. Widely acknowledged as a leading negotiation trainer, he focused on giving participants a working knowledge of the Interests-Based Model of Negotiation created by Roger Fisher and taught at the Programme on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.

Through role-play exercises and simulated negotiations, participants got to practise the concepts in interests-based negotiation, or integrative negotiation, to explore the deeper interests underlying parties’ stated positions to identify potential tradeoffs and win-win opportunities across issues and interests.

The practical and dynamic learning environment provided opportunities for participants to refine their negotiation techniques, gaining the confidence and expertise needed to navigate high-stakes disputes successfully.

NUS Law Academy hopes that these participants, now equipped with enhanced negotiation capabilities,   will go on to lead many successful negotiations and contribute to the growth and success of their careers and their organisations.
