NUS Law alumni appointments in Supreme Court

March 17, 2026 | Alumni, Faculty

We congratulate our alumni, Judicial Commissioners (JCs) Mohamed Faizal Mohamed Abdul Kadir ’05 and Sushil Sukumaran Nair ’89, on being appointed High Court judges from 9 March 2026.

The appointments are a fitting recognition of Justice Faizal’s work in the Legal Service and Justice Nair’s outstanding contributions to Singapore’s legal landscape, with both continuing a proud tradition of service in public office by NUS Law alumni.

Justice Mohamed Faizal Mohamed Abdul Kadir

Justice Mohamed Faizal Mohamed Abdul Kadir was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court in 2024.

He has served in numerous capacities throughout his 18 years in the Singapore Legal Service, including as a Justices’ Law Clerk and Assistant Registrar in the Supreme Court of Singapore; Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC); and as General Counsel and Director (Legal) in the Singapore Medical Council.

He was Second Chief Prosecutor of the Crime Division at the AGC, prior to his appointment to the Bench.

Justice Faizal, who was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2014, was appointed Senior Counsel in 2020.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 2005, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School in 2009.

Justice Sushil Sukumaran Nair

Justice Sushil Sukumaran Nair was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court in 2025.

He previously served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Drew & Napier LLC where he also headed its Corporate Restructuring and Workout practice group. With about 35 years of legal experience, Justice Nair dedicated a majority of his time to restructuring work. His practice primarily targeted the Asia Pacific region, in particular Indonesia and China, where he played a key role in some of the largest restructuring exercises in Asia including cross-borders exercises.

In 2023, he was awarded Singapore’s Public Service Star (Covid-19) accolade for conceptualising the framework of and drafting Singapore’s Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Bill. He was also awarded the Ministry of Law Partner of the Year Award for this work.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 1989.
