NUS Law congratulates three faculty members on being conferred National Day Awards
Congratulations to our colleagues who were conferred National Day Awards! Assistant Professor Tan Hsien-Li (The Commendation Medal), Professor Joel Lee (The Public Service Medal) and Associate Professor Tracey Evans Chan (The Long Service Medal) will receive their awards recognising various forms of merit and service to Singapore at the National Day Awards Investiture Ceremony in November.
They shared their thoughts on being conferred the awards.
“This Pingat Kepujian for my ASEAN Law and policy work honours my 101-year-old grandmother Pang Siew Tiam. Illiterate but multi-lingual, she formulated her own hieroglyphics. Ah Ma raised me speaking Teochew till I went to primary school. Her instructions ‘to be a good and useful person’ are well-heeded.”

“Having had the privilege of being involved in promoting mediation in Singapore since the early days, I am happy to see mediation’s growth and development, and for it to have taken its rightful place as a business-friendly way to resolve international commercial disputes. And while there is more work to be done, it is an honour to be recognised for one’s contributions.”
Professor Joel Lee, recipient of the Public Service Medal
“Time really flies. Grateful for the opportunity to teach talented students and be inspired by supportive colleagues.”
