NUS Law hosts Conference on “Third World Approaches to International Law”

NUS Law hosted the conference on “Third World Approaches to International Law” (TWAIL Singapore) from 19 to 21 July 2018.

Since the first TWAIL Conference was held at Harvard in 1997, TWAIL scholars have responded to a complex and rapidly changing international environment by producing a wide-ranging, distinctive and powerful body of work which has reconsidered the conventional wisdoms of international law and its operations.

While TWAIL has accomplished much in the last 21 years, it is also very much an ongoing and evolving project. Hence, this conference attempted to evaluate and assess the past, present and future of TWAIL.

With 27 panel sessions, four roundtable sessions, two plenary sessions, two book panels and a book launch, more than 150 international and local delegates were a part of rich and stimulating discussions on the many challenges that international law confronts today. Panels included International Economic Law, Human Rights, the History and Theory of International Law, Refugees, Investment Arbitration, International Criminal Law and others.
