NUS Law Team Shines at International Moot Competitions

Congratulations to the NUS Law moot team for an excellent performance! The NUS team made milestone achievements at this year’s edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The team:
• Won the Moot Shanghai, beating almost 30 teams;
• Went on to Hong Kong, beating more than 100 teams to emerge as semi-finalists;
• Argued at the Budapest Moot, emerging 2nd place against more than 50 teams; and
• Placed in the top 16 in Vienna, against more than 300 teams.

In Hong Kong and Vienna, seven out of the eight speakers were recognised during the prize-giving for best oral advocacy, placing them within the top five percent of the participants. In particular, Loh Tian Kai ’16 placed 3rd for the best oral advocate prize in both Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In total, the team, comprising Loh Tian Kai, Jonathan Yong ’16, Tan Zhen He’16 and Eugene Oh ’17 in Shanghai and Hong Kong, as well as Leong Qianyu ’16, Marrissa Karuna ’16, Mark Hee ’17 and Chester Tan ’17 in Budapest and Vienna netted a whopping 16 prizes for oral and written advocacy.

The team was coached by Ms Elaine Chew (Lecturer, NUS Law) and Mr Tiong Teck Wee (Senior Associate, Allen&Gledhill).
