NUS Law Welcome Weekend 2022

May 23, 2022 | Faculty

NUS Law welcomed students who have received offers to enrol in its LLB program on Saturday 21 May to our Bukit Timah campus. This is the first time after two years, that we have held a Welcome Weekend event in-person since the pandemic.

Dean Simon Chesterman kicked off the event with a speech to introduce the NUS Law family and congratulated the students who have been offered a place. Incoming freshmen also had an opportunity to learn more about the diverse range of subjects and electives that the top law school in Asia has to offer, connect with their peers, prepare for the rigorous curriculum, experience what it was like to attend class in-person, and got to know more about getting involved in university life within the faculty and beyond.

Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) Arif Jamal spoke about the double degree programmes and the possibilities of reading minors from a wide field as such, Communications, New Media, Management, Economics, Business Analytics, Information Security, Public Health, and Financial Mathematics. In addition to NUS Law’s student exchange programme where a student may spend at least a semester at any one of 58 universities in 21 countries, the faculty also invites visiting professors from top law global schools, such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Melbourne, NYU and Stanford to teach intensive modules in Singapore each semester. In addition to corporate/commercial, banking and international arbitration subjects, some of the more unusual electives include Aviation Law, Outer Space Law, Law & Literature, and Intellectual Property Law.

Incoming freshmen had the opportunity to visit the various student club booths and interest groups. They were given the chance to interact with the respective student leaders to learn more about student life, what each club could offer, and asked all their burning questions.

To end off the afternoon, masterclasses were held by some of our professors for students to experience what it was like to attend class at NUS Law.
