Congratulations to the NUS Law team of Abhishek Srivastava ’21 and Jerry Wang ’21 on winning the 2019 Attorney-General’s Cup.

This marks NUS Law’s fifth consecutive victory in this prestigious competition that was started in 2011 by Professor Walter Woon ’81 to generate greater interest and awareness of criminal law issues.

After four gruelling knockout rounds, the NUS Law team reached the finals and defeated the team from SMU Law at SMU’s David Marshall Moot Court on 29 August 2019. Abhishek also received the Best Oralist Award.

The final round was presided over by Deputy Attorney-General Hri Kumar Nair SC ’91 (Attorney-General’s Chambers), Judicial Commissioner Mavis Chionh LLM ’05 (Supreme Court of Singapore) and Justice Kannan Ramesh ’90 (Supreme Court of Singapore).

The scenario given to the teams this year follows a jurisdictional dispute between a solid waste re-processing plant and a public prosecutor from a neighbouring country over the releasing of hazardous smoke and noxious fumes into the atmosphere.

The team would like to thank Associate Professor Lim Lei Theng ’92 (NUS Law), Professor Alan Tan ’93 (NUS Law), Benny Tan ’12 (NUS Law), Mohan Gopalan ’10, Sim Khadijah Binte Mohammed ’07, Jane Lim, Victor Leong ’16, Mitchell Yeo ’10, Joel Leow ’18, Gwendolyn Oh ’21, Natalee Ho ’20, Joel Sherard ’20 and Ong Kye Jing ’21 for their assistance throughout the tournament.
