NUS Law wins Gowling WLG IP Moot

NUS Law won the 2019 Gowling WLG IP Moot competition in a clean sweep that saw the Grand Finals being competed between four NUS Law students namely, Arjit Pandey ’22, Elisabeth Liang ’19, Joshua Ng ’21 and Samuel Teo ’21.

Held on 13 February 2019, Gowling WLG IP Moot competition is Singapore’s only intellectual property moot and is sponsored by Gowling WLG and supported by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

The judges for this year’s competition were Mr Mark Lim ’94 (Chief Legal Counsel, Director (Hearings and Mediation), IPOS), Mr Gordon Harris (Global Co-Head (Intellectual Property), Gowling WLG) and Ms Sheena Jacob (Managing Director, JurisAsia LLC).

This year’s moot problem focused on the area of trademark law concerning the use of Artificial Intelligence. Arjit Pandey and Samuel Teo appeared for the Appellant while Joshua Ng and Elisabeth Liang appeared for the Respondent. After an intense final between the four finalists, Arjit Pandey emerged as the Champion while Samuel Teo finished as the First Runner-up. Elisabeth Liang and Joshua Ng both finished as joint Second Runners-up.

As champion, Arjit will receive an internship at one of the Gowling WLG’s offices across the globe as well as a cash prize of $1,200. Elisabeth, Joshua and Samuel will also receive internships at Gowling WLG’s affiliated firm in Singapore, and cash prizes.
