NUS Law secures landslide victory at The Victor’s Moot

NUS Law secured a landslide victory at the 9th H.V. Perera QC Memorial Moot Competition (The Victor’s Moot), emerging as Overall Champion, with Varun Karthik ’27 securing the Best Oralist award, Ong Qian Ying Chernys ’29 securing the Best Oralist Runner Up award, and Jared Goh Kiat Gin ’29 securing the Best Oralist of the Finals award.

The competition was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 17 to 19 July 2026, and the moot problem tackled an international arbitration dispute, centred on the enforceability of multi-tiered dispute resolution clauses and whether proceedings were premature and/or time-barred, and whether a government land-reclamation contract had been breached—with the right to terminate and resulting damages fiercely contested.

Organised by the Moot Society of Sri Lanka Law College, this competition has been held annually since its inception in 2018 in commemoration of Dr Herbert Victor Perera QC, a distinguished and renowned personality in the field of law in Sri Lanka. The Victor’s Moot aims to elevate knowledge on commercial arbitration by providing law students with a platform to exhibit their intellect in alternative dispute resolution.
