On 12 February, Professor David Tan (Vice Dean (Academic Affairs), NUS Law) was invited to deliver the annual review of copyright decisions handed down in Singapore and the United States for the year 2018 at the Suntec City Convention Centre.

This Developments in IP (Intellectual Property) Law Series is co-organised by the IP Academy and the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business (EWBCLB) for IP professionals in Singapore. It comprises four half-day seminars covering patents (16 January), breach of confidence/data protection (18 January), trademarks (29 January) and copyright (12 February), with over 100 participants attending each seminar. Professor Tan is also Director (Intellectual Property) at the EWBCLB.

Joining him was Professor Graeme Austin (Victoria University of Wellington and Melbourne Law School) who delivered a review of key decisions from Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand for the same year, and Ms Trina Ha ’97 (Director (Legal) & Head (IP Management (Government)), Intellectual Property Office of Singapore) who spoke about Singapore’s comprehensive copyright review process that started with public consultations in 2016 and culminated in the release of the review report last month. Professor Austin is currently a visiting professor at NUS Law teaching the intensive course Public and Private International Copyright Law.

The afternoon wrapped with a panel discussion comprising the three speakers, and Mr Jason Chan ’91 (Director, Amica Law LLC), moderated by Ms Trina Ha ’97.
