Congratulations to Kimberley Pah ’19 and Levin Lin ’20 for placing fourth in the International Negotiation Competition (INC) in Tokyo, Japan, from 5 to 9 July 2019.

The INC is the oldest and most renowned legal negotiation competition, and it fields the national champion team from each participating country.

This year, 28 countries took part in the INC which was hosted by Sophia University in Tokyo and sponsored by the Sumitomo Corporation. All three rounds of competition (comprising both two- and four-party negotiations) explored various contractual arrangements in the business of fine art investment. Negotiations were also complicated by confidential information such as old family feuds. Through the three days of competition, the NUS Law team representing Singapore negotiated with teams from the United States, Indonesia, Norway, Switzerland, and Qatar.

The team would like to thank their National Round coach Marcus Lim ’12 and their International Round coach Professor Joel Lee. They would also like to thank members of the INC alumni Chia Lyn Lynn ’02, Rachel Yee ’06, Lin Wenrong ’08, Nirev Shah ’10, André Seah ’11, Eddy Hirono ’13, Zulhafni Zulkeflee ’15, Too Fang Yi ’16, Chester Tan ’17, Abhinav Mohan ’17, Janessa Sit ’18, and Leanne Cheng ’19.

Last but not least, they would like to thank their training partners, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Melbourne 2019 team coach (Mark Lim ’19) and team (Joelle Loy ’20, Darren Wong ’21, Darryl Lau ’21, Isabella Tan ’21), the International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) International Law School Mediation Competition (Athens) team (Victoria Tay ’20, Foo Kai Siang ’20, and Darryl Lau ’21), and the IBA-VIAC Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition (CDRC) Vienna team (Eu Shae-Yenne ’22 and Tan Pei Han ’22).
