Organised by the Centre for Law & Business (CLB), this conference took place in National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law, Bukit Timah Campus on 25 April 2016.

The conference participants were welcomed by Professor Tan Cheng Han, Chairman of Centre for Law & Businesses and were given a keynote address by Mr. Toh Han Li, Chief Executive Officer, Competition Commission of Singapore.

Competition law academics, practitioners and policy-makers from ASEAN and around the world were invited to present papers that offer diverse perspectives on how competition law and policy might or should develop in the ASEAN region in response to the regional imperatives of the proposed AEC. This conference drew inputs from competition officials from around the world attending the 2016 International Competition Network (ICN) meeting hosted by Singapore during the same period.

Papers presented at this conference fell within 3 broad (and potentially overlapping) categories:

(a) Competition law and policy in the ASEAN region;
(b) Competition law development in other regional settings;
(c) The regional dimensions of specific competition law principles: what impact will doctrinal developments relating to these rules have on the creation of a regional economic community?

The conference convenor, Associate Professor Burton Ong aims to edit and compile the papers presented and discussed at this conference into a book to be published by early 2017.
