Description

The idea of a relational contract has been developed in research in sociology, economics and law, and has now been referred to in several judicial decisions in the United Kingdom (as well as elsewhere in the common law world). But what does the idea of a relational contract mean and what are its implications? If the notion of relational contract applies to a particular type of contract (such as employment or a franchise) or a type of contractual relationship (such as a long-term relationship), does it have particular legal implications for those transactions, such as an expansion of mandatory duties of disclosure or obligations to perform in good faith?

Professor Hugh Collins

Hugh Collins is the Vinerian Professor of English Law at All Souls College, Oxford. Previously he was Professor of English Law at the London School of Economics (LSE) 1991-2013, and a Fellow of Brasenose College, Oxford. He studied law at Oxford and Harvard. He is a Fellow of the British Academy. He has served on the editorial committee of The Modern Law Review since 1991, including a period General Editor, and is co-founder of the European Review of Contract Law. Recent book publications include A European Civil Code: The Way Forward (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2008); Employment Law 2nd edn (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2010); Networks as Connected Contracts ( by Gunther Teubner) Edited with an introduction 1-72 pp (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2011); and Labour Law (CUP, Law in Context Series, 2012) with K.D.
