On 18 January, Benjamin Wong ’15 (Sheridan Fellow, NUS Law) was invited to deliver the annual review of breach of confidence and personal data protection decisions handed down in Singapore for the year 2018 at the Suntec City Convention Centre.
This Developments in IP (Intellectual Property) Law Series is co-organised by the IP Academy and the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business for IP professionals in Singapore. It comprises four half-day seminars covering patents (16 January), breach of confidence/data protection (18 January), trademarks (29 January) and copyright (12 February), with over 100 participants attending each seminar.
Joining him was Professor Megan Richardson (Melbourne Law School) who delivered a review of European and Australian decisions for the same year, and Mr Yeong Zee Kin ’97 (Assistant Chief Executive (Data Innovation & Protection Group), Infocomm Media Development Authority; Deputy Commissioner of the Personal Data Protection Commission) who spoke about policy updates in privacy and data protection laws.
The afternoon wrapped with an animated panel discussion comprising the three speakers, Mr Adrian Tan ’91 (Partner (Litigation & Dispute Resolution), TSMP Law Corporation) and Judicial Commissioner Dedar Singh Gill ’83 (Supreme Court of Singapore), moderated by Mr Gabriel Ong ’10 (Senior Legal Counsel (Hearings & Mediation Department), IPOS).
