We are pleased to introduce bon-net, the new Pro Bono Portal for NUS Law students.
The name, logo and symbolism of bon-net draws inspiration from the prize-winning submission by Wong Yu Wen (LLB, Year 2 student) for the recent pro bono portal naming and logo competition, which the Centre has further developed and reimagined into its final form.
Why “bon-net”?
The name bon-net reflects the spirit and purpose of pro bono service. Across several languages, words such as bon, bono and bueno convey the meaning of “good”. In Latin, bono forms part of pro bono publico – "for the public good” – the principle at the heart of pro bono service. The “net” in bon-net represents connection and community – a network bringing together students, opportunities and organisations in service of the public good.
As NUS Law's Pro Bono Portal, bon-net enables students to discover meaningful opportunities, record their pro bono activities and contribute to a wider culture of service.
The Meaning Behind the Logo
At the centre of the logo is a stylised bee, reflecting both the name bon-net and the expression “to have a bee in one's bonnet” – to be deeply committed to an idea or cause. While this is sometimes viewed as an eccentricity, at the Centre for Pro Bono & Clinical Legal Education (CPBCLE), we believe that a steadfast commitment to serving the public good is neither an irritation nor an obsession—it is a purpose.
The bee also represents diligence, purpose and collective effort, values that resonate strongly with CPBCLE's mission. Like bees working together for the benefit of their community, pro bono service brings together the contributions of individuals to create an impact greater than themselves.
Forming the wings of the bee is an infinity symbol, representing the enduring nature of pro bono service, lifelong learning and the continuous pursuit of justice and the public good. The surrounding structure evokes a network of connections, reflecting the role of bon-net in bringing together students, opportunities and the wider pro bono community.
Together, these elements capture what we hope bon-net will represent: a connected community united by a common purpose.
The new pro bono portal for Law students has launched on 1 July 2026.
